Frequently asked questions
So what does each pack contain?
Wits End curriculum packs contain everything you need to educate your child.
Primary packs cover all the subjects of the primary National Curriculum except
Religious Education, that is, Maths, English, Science, History, Geography, Art, Music and ICT.
Secondary packs contain scheduled Maths, English, Science, History, Geography and ICT.
Also, to give breadth to the syllabus, we include unscheduled History of Music, Art,
Cookery and a multimedia Shakespeare component.
From the bewildering choice available, we have chosen the very best books and
software for each subject appropriate to your child's Year group.
All packs include a daily schedule for the whole year, breaking down each
subject into manageable tasks, and a specialist encyclopedia appropriate to the child's age.

What if my child is particularly strong or weak at Maths or English?
We can adapt any curriculum pack to your child's particular needs, by scheduling
work which will help to build up their confidence in a subject they find
difficult, and more challenging work in subjects in which they are strong.

Can I start to home-educate at any time of year?
Yes. You can start whenever you wish. You don't have to wait until the
beginning of a school year. Your child's particular needs will dictate
which curriculum pack you start with, and how the pack should be adapted.
Contact us, and we'll do our best to accommodate your situation.

What do you provide for the core primary curriculum subjects?
Maths: Each pack contains textbooks which cover each of the National Curriculum
topics - Number, Fractions, Money, Shape (2D and 3D), Data Handling and Measure
- with daily practice of mental maths and reinforcement of all topics.
English: Each pack contains textbooks on Comprehension, Grammar and Handwriting,
and Writing Composition, with daily Spelling practice.
We provide non-fiction and suggest suitable fiction for each age group.
Science: No special equipment is required for science. There is an emphasis on
experimental work - something which children experience less at school - and
the scientific method, applied to the real world.
Each year has a different emphasis, for example, science investigations, practical
experiments, a focus on the human body, etc.

And what about the other primary subjects?
History and Geography: Each pack contains textbooks covering topics suitable for
your child's age. We have introduced new history textbooks concentrating on original source
material with activities to develop historical skills and understanding.
Music: Each year has a different emphasis using a CD and song sheets, with
various activities which help develop an understanding of music.
Art: We provide Art textbooks suitable for each Year group, which
over time give your child experience in a number of different media.
ICT: For Years 3 to 6, we provide a textbook which teaches the skills your child
needs to use the computer across the curriculum.

Can't I just buy these books from local bookshops?
The books in our packs are generally not the type of books you can buy in
WHSmith, etc. They are good quality textbooks as used in schools, as we feel
the other books are fine as supplementary material, or for holiday work, but
not as a main course of study for an entire year, as they are not detailed or
thorough enough. We get our books direct from leading educational publishers
here in the UK.

What about socialisation?
This is a common worry for parents, but children usually become more self-confident
away from the peer pressure experienced in schools. Naturally, you will try to
encourage your child to mix with children with similar interests, eg. sport, drama,
art class. You may also want to find a local home-education group which meets regularly.
